COOKIES
What are cookies? A cookie is a file that is downloaded to your computer when you access certain websites. Cookies allow a website, among other things, to store and retrieve information about a user’s or their device’s browsing habits and, depending on the information they contain and how your device is used, they can be used to recognise the user.
TYPES OF COOKIES
According to the entity that manages them:
- First-party cookies: these are those that are sent to the user’s terminal device from a device or domain managed by the website operator itself, and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: these are those that are sent to the user’s terminal device from a device or domain that is not managed by the operator, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies, or cookies installed from a device or domain managed by the website operator, where the information collected is managed by a third party. In this case, cookies from external social networks are used, allowing visitors to interact with content from different social platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and are generated solely for the users of these social networks. The terms of use of these cookies and the information collected are governed by the privacy policy of the respective social platform.
According to the length of time they remain active:
- Persistent cookies: these are stored on the hard drive and our Website reads them every time you make a new visit. A persistent Website has a set expiry date. The cookie will stop working after that date.
- Session cookies: these are temporary cookies that remain in your browser’s cookie file until you leave the Website, so none are recorded on the user’s hard drive. The information obtained by means of these cookies is used to analyse traffic patterns on the Website. In the long run, this allows us to provide a better experience to improve the content by making it easier to use.
According to their purpose:
- Technical cookies: These are those that enable the user to navigate through a website, platform or application and utilise the various options or services available on it. Examples include controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted areas, remembering the items in an order, completing an order’s purchase process, submitting an application or registering for an event, employing security features during browsing, storing content for video or sound broadcasting, or sharing content via social networks.
- Analytical cookies: These are those that allow the party responsible for them to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used in the measurement of website, application or platform activity and for the profiling of user navigation on those sites, applications and platforms, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the usage data made by the users of the service.
- Personalisation cookies: These are those that allow the user to access the service with some predefined general characteristics based on a series of criteria on the user’s terminal, such as the language, the type of browser through which they access the service, the regional configuration from which they access the service, etc.
- Advertising cookies: These are those that allow the management, in the most effective way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included on a web page, application or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the edited content or the frequency with which the advertisements are shown.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: These are those that allow the most effective possible management of the advertising spaces that, where applicable, the editor has included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided. These cookies store information on user behaviour obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on it.
